The theme of the 2023 Taipei Biennale, “Small World,” represents both hope and unease: the global pandemic has impacted on the individual’s ability to take greater control of his or her own life, while at the same time stirring up fears of isolation from the wider community. We find that when the world shrinks, it can bring people closer together, but it can also alienate them even further: this “small world” is suspended in a state of limbo between the extremes of togetherness and separation. This year’s Taipei Biennale points to the situation we all face, inviting the audience to explore how to utilize the experience of epidemics to come up with new imaginations of life, and to reflect on whether people’s desire for simplicity and sensibility has become unattainable as everyday life becomes more and more tense and complex.
Wandering through the Taipei Biennale’s “Small World”, we look back on the journey that Art Saving Life Foundation has taken over the past 16 years, as we have been committed to improving the recovery of breast cancer patients through art therapy programs, as well as actively supporting related research and education, and advocating for active and healthy lifestyles in the community.
In a small world, the arts become the link that connects every individual in the community. The Art Saving Life Foundation brings community members closer together by providing free, charitable art therapy programs, healthy eating, and charitable programs such as Zumba/Yoga. In a time of challenge and hope, art is not only a means of healing, but also a bridge of communication and empathy.
Especially in the shadow of the epidemic over the past three years, Art Saving Life Foundation has demonstrated remarkable resilience. In the face of life’s complexities and tensions, the desire for simplicity and sensuality has become ever more urgent. The Foundation’s art healing programs and many fitness programs have brought warmth and inspiration to the community, serving as a safe and strong support system.
Looking back over the years, Art Saving Life Foundation is not just a charity, but a witness to the growth of life. It has become a spiritual home for the community while fighting the battle with breast cancer survivors. Through the wonders of its art programs, the Foundation provides a spiritual healing experience that transcends medicine and creates a stronger bond in the community.
As we approach the end of the year, Christmas and the New Year, we are overwhelmed by the tireless efforts of the Foundation over the past 16 years, and we thank each and every one of you who has supported us!
In the new year of 2024, Art Saving Life Foundation will continue to do its part for the community by planting seeds of hope in this small world. Through the power of art, we will continue to bring people closer together, and together with our partners, we will grow together and we will create more miracles.
We wish our friends a safe, healthy and joyful Christmas and New Year!
