Every 23 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer. Every 69 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer. This is a fight we must take on NOW!
Janet (Jian) Liu, an artist of remarkable strength, has battled through grueling mastectomy surgeries and relentless chemotherapy since her breast cancer diagnosis in 2005. In 2012, she endured yet another surgery and radiation treatment. This harrowing journey ignited a fierce determination in Janet to create a charitable organization dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients, survivors, and the community. She recognized that beating this disease requires more than just medical treatment—it demands a positive and healthy lifestyle. Through art and healthy living activities, patients and survivors can find the strength and positivity they need to fight this disease.
In 2008, Janet founded the Art Saving Life Foundation, a volunteer-based registered charity with a mission to aid breast cancer survivors through art therapy programs, self-balance seminars, and research funding. We established the “Art Saving Life Foundation Graduate Scholarship” at Concordia University in 2011, rewarding excellence in Art Therapy master’s programs. Our support extends to the Ville Marie Oncology Foundation, art therapy research, and the open studio at Cedars CanSupport.
We pioneered the ZUMBA Fitness charity fundraising party for breast cancer in 2009 at the L’ile-Bizard Community Center. Since 2015, our Zumba Outdoor Summer Annual Event has flourished with tremendous support from the L’ile-Bizard City, promoting free Zumba fitness dance to the local community and fostering healthy, positive lifestyles. It’s our 10th annual celebration of Zumba Summer Outdoor this year.
On August 6th, 2024, from 7pm-9pm, we are hosting the Zumba for Hope Fundraising Party. Led by our superstar, Lisbeth Mora, and phenomenal zumba instructors team, this event is a beacon of joy and resilience. We invite breast cancer survivors, their families, friends, and anyone eager to join this vibrant, uplifting celebration to dance to lively Latin music.
